Natives of Durham, Residents of the West End community

Minister and early childhood educator in Durham and Chatham Counties

Successfully parented 16 children

 

PURPOSES:

 

• To provide scholarships to meritorious students who need support for incidental college expenses in order to fully benefit from the undergraduate experience.

• To formally honor the legacy of the namesakes, who had 13 of their 16 children to earn undergraduate degrees and beyond, and two to earn 2-year degrees.

• To honor contributors to the quality of life in the Durham community, especially in areas of endeavors of concern to the namesakes.

 

STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA STATUS: Incorporated non-profit organization

 

FEDERAL STATUS: 501(c)(3) public corporation

 

GOVERNANCE:

 

Governed by a working Board of Directors, according to Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. The Board consists of persons with the following experience: campus minister, attorneys at law; university professor, college admissions officer, public school superintendent, corporate manager, accountant, public administrator, contractor, CEO of daycare business, legal secretary, nonprofit personnel officer, governmental planner, industrial engineer, architectural engineer, contractor, private businessman, computer systems management.
